The fountain that adorned the market square in Burnley when I were a lad has taken on mythical status down the years for me. It's significance augmented in my mind as some kind of psychogeographical totem unequivocally linked to my childhood. It's absence some kind of lacklustre metaphor for the loss of something that I never could put my finger on, even now. Only less wanky than that.
Our Pal Eric Greaves, has created two wonderful limited edition prints of the fountain that capture some of what it meant, and what it means to him. His explanation is this;
"Whoever made the decision to get shut of the fountain is a right dickhead. In some ways it was the heart of Burnley town centre and they ripped it right out. I made these pictures for the same reason Mr Benn used to steal all the mementos from the costume hire shop he used to frequent: 'to help me remember'..".
